The Wellington Trades Academy is a fees-free, dual enrolment model where Year 12 students are enrolled at school for 3 days and polytech - Weltec Petone, Weltec Cuba Street, Whitireia Porirua or Te Auaha campus - for 2 days throughout the year. Courses offer between 20 and 50 unit standard credits with the focus on practical-learning in a specific vocational strand that aims to prepare students for tertiary study at a higher level, an apprenticeship or employment.

Applications for enrolment open at the beginning of September. Entry criteria is 60 credits at NCEA Level 1 including literacy and numeracy and students are selected by the Trades Academy on the basis of their application and an interview. Students and their caregivers who are interested in this option should discuss this with their Dean.
