STAR (Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource) Courses are an opportunity for senior students to participate in short courses offered by a range of Tertiary Education Providers including: Weltec, Whitireia, Yoobee Media Design, NZ School of Tourism, Elite Beauty and others.
STAR courses are funded through the Ministry of Education to support young people's pathways beyond school through experiencing a relevant tertiary course or career taster - they are therefore fees-free for students.
Students in Years 11-13 are eligible to apply for up to 2 courses per year with Yoobee offering courses to Years 9 and above.
Most STAR Courses offer unit standard credits that contribute to students' NCEA certificates.
STAR Courses involve student commitment to attend the full course and with most courses running during the school term - students require the consent of their caregiver to participate in a course.
