The Onslow College Rowing Club (OCRC) is affiliated to the Wellington Rowing Club (WRC). Students row for the WRC in local regattas and represent Onslow College in the championship regattas at Lake Karapiro and other secondary school regattas, including the Maadi Cup (NZSS Rowing Champs).
The season begins with a Learn to Row programme starting in August followed by a camp at the end of Term 3 to identify students with the right drive and potential and then continues over the summer holidays until March of the following year.
Novice squads train 4-5 times per week from Oct to Dec. Up to 7 trainings a week are likely near the end of the season as crews build for championship regattas.
A full information evening in August will provide students and parents with a comprehensive picture of what is involved.
Trainings:ย Onslow College, Wellington Rowing Club, Frank Kitts Park, Lagoon and other venues.
Venues: ย ย Wellington Harbour, Wanganui River, Wairarapa, Lake Karapiro.
Uniform:ย ย ย Full information will be given at the pre-season meeting.
Costs:ย Students chosen as novice rowers after the โLearn to Rowโ camp should expect costs of around $2800 (excluding Maadi) for the full season.ย These costs include the Learn to Row programme and the LTR camp as well as all club, coaching and uniform fees and participation at the summer camp, at least three away regattas as well as local regattas and other mini camps. Actual costs may vary depending on the individual rowerโs participation in all events, but are indicative of a typical season. Costs are charged on a per event basis.
$10.00 Administration fee will be charged to your account once squads are confirmed in September.
Rowing is an expensive sport and fundraising opportunities are provided to assist students and their families.
