Pānui to Whānau – 4th April, 2024

Kia ora e te whānau,

A huge thank you to everyone who made our Year 9 camp so successful. The staff and Yr13 Peer Supporters worked so hard to make it an amazing experience for the year 9’s. I’ve had such great feedback about the Yr13 students from staff who attended.

Our school production, The Sound of Music (5 performances over 4 days) started yesterday. I attended opening night last night, and it was a stunning display of the incredible talent at Onslow College. I encourage you to book a ticket and go! The creativity in the stage production and innovative rewriting of a classic story was very impressive. Tickets are here – on sale now.

We were really delighted to hear about Year 12 students Abby Steward and Olivia Martin’s Bronze medal in the U16 Girls double sculls race at the Maadi Cup Rowing regatta during Summer Tournament week at Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel. The girls had a spectacular run in 4 races from heats to the finals improving their time overall by 23 seconds. The whole Onslow College Maadi crew had an outstanding regatta, competing in 2 x B finals and 2 x A finals, with some impressive individual results plus the bronze medal. We can be very proud of our whole rowing team, coaches, and parents for the commitment and training required to achieve these results. Go Onslow!

Reports for Year 9 and Year 10 have been published. Have a look at your students progress to date on the School Bridge app or web dashboard. Reports for Y11/12/13 will be published by the end of the weekend as we currently resolve an issue with our provider following the NCEA changes.

We are celebrating our new and updated school values this week. All students showing or demonstrating one or more of the school values are given a ‘School Values’ card which can be redeemed at interval or lunch for some well deserved chocolate! Our new values deign is displayed here:

  • Tauira are represented by the Kākā who come to the kura as they are (diversity).
  • The Kākā feeds from the rākau (kura).
  • They feed on growth opportunities which enriches their wings to flourish with manaakitanga and whanaungatanga to be able to take flight.
  • The Kākā are surrounded by the whenua from which they embrace kaitiakitanga

We wish everybody a well deserved rest and safe April holiday break. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed for Term 2 on Monday 29th April.

Please reach out to me or any of the Senior Leadership Team if you have any questions.

Nga mihi nui,

Sheena Millar
Tumuaki/Principal
