Onslow College has a comprehensive Careers Education programme
The Careers team of Peter Chapman (Careers Advisor) and Carolyn Lewin (Gateway) are available to parents as well as students
Advice and guidance is provided on careers, tertiary education, training courses and subject choices
Careers advice and guidance begins in Year 9
Careers provides students with careers and course advice services and access to facilities and resources to maximise their career decisions and further study options. The overall focus of career education is to assist all students to make informed decisions about their future education, training and work pathways, within and outside college.
Careers events are listed in the Calendar.
STAR Courses [Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource] are a great opportunity for senior students to have a taster of a tertiary programme and a tertiary provider while they are at school. Course fees are met through the Ministry of Education and transport is provided by the College.
Most STAR Courses include Level 2 credits and are therefore most appropriate for Yr 12 students; all STAR Courses involve commitment to the course and time out of the school programme. Students need the support of their Dean and the approval of their parent or guardian to enrol in a course.
Please contact Carolyn Lewin, Careers Dept, firstname.lastname@example.org for STAR course enrolments, dates and course descriptors.
The purpose of Gateway is to enable schools to provide senior students (year 11 and above) with opportunities to access structured workplace learning that has:
- a formalised learning arrangement set in the workplace
- specified knowledge and skills that a student will attain
- specified assessment methods (workplace learning).
