Onslow College runs a Mountain Biking Club for Grade 3 Intermediate level and above riders, to support them in learning all aspects of the sport including competing, trail care and bike maintenance.
The Club welcomes experienced student riders to participate in rides to support less confident riders, to become Trip Leaders, and to develop their leadership skills.
The Club offers a limited number of instruction courses run by a female instructor specifically designed for women and girls wanting to further develop their mountain biking skills and confidence levels.
The Club also offers as part of its regular rides female only rides for girls and women who want to ride with other girls/ women.
Parents are encouraged to come along and join the rides to brush up on their riding/ skills and/ or to learn new skills.
A few rides may be organised during the year specifically for Grade 2 Beginner riders and less confident Grade 3 Intermediate riders if there is sufficient demand and there are enough parent riders willing to assist ride leaders.
In Terms 1 & 4 group rides are organised in the weekends. Sometimes rides are organised in Term 1 after school. Maintenance sessions are organised, as well as a trip to Rotorua in the Term 3 holidays.
Riders take part in local races and competitions, including the WMTBC Enduro Series, PNP XC races, Karapoti Classic, the Cycling NZ Schools North Island MTB Championships, the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships, as well as national events such as the 2W Gravity Enduro.
