Treasurer’s Report 2011

I would like to start my report by thanking Anne Burrage from the school office for all her help during the year providing me with account ledgers, answering the queries that I have and for promptly actioning reimbursements and payments when they are requested.

In 2011, we have been delighted to be able to fund the purchase of aluminium seating for the basketball court/quad area, as well as the materials for Year 9 classes to design and create artwork with a New Zealand indigenous theme to surround the rubbish bins in that area. The PTA has also funded the purchase of plants for the Arboretum to the value of $533.86.

During the year the committee, through the efforts of Anne Johnston, have raised just under $732 from raffles run during the evening events held at the school. This has been a great success and a welcome addition to our account — thank you Anne.

The committee again decided to fund the Year 9 Tea, instead of asking each family for $15. We did ask people for a donation/koha. This request for a donation was not as successful as the previous year mainly, I believe, due to the fact that we held the Year 9 Tea in Term 2, not Term 1 (due to the industrial action of the Teachers’ Union), and held it together with Year 9 parent/teacher interviews evening and many families did not stay after their interviews.

The money that we have is invested through the school, on our behalf, at 3.15% interest. This has earned us $402 in interest for the year.  By having transferred our funds into the Onslow School Accounting System in 2008 and having the school manage our banking and payments, has meant that we do not have to engage an auditor, as this is done when the school’s financial accounts are audited.
