Culture and the arts
Excellence in the arts is encouraged at Onslow College. The school is committed to enhancing student abilities and involvement in this area. The nature of the school is very much shaped by the creative talents and enthusiasm of its students.
Students are active in debating with teams in most grades.
Drama follows a stong tradition of public performance at both junior and senior levels.
As well as Drama programmes at all levels, there are opportunities for involvement with:
- The Sheliah Winn Shakespeare Festival
- Musical Productions
Dance is offered as a subject within the Onslow College curriculum and students also have the opportunity to participate in co-curricular dance activities including the school musical and Stage Challenge. In 2014 Team OC won the Wellington Stage Challenge competition.
Onslow College has a very strong music department, not only offering courses at all levels of the curriculum but also the opportunity for students to be involved in individual and group tuition, bands, ensembles and choirs.
Onslow College visual arts are proudly displayed throughout the corridors at the College. We also participate in community arts projects including the Johnsonville Mural on Moorefield Road. This mural tells the story of the development of Johnsonville as a suburb. Onslow College students painted a panel depicting the Tip Top Ice Cream factory that used to be situated on Johnsonville Road.
