7.30pm, OC Library

All welcome!

Key points from PTA meetings 2018

    Monday, 27 August 2018

    • A very busy third term for the PTA with the following events supported:
      • Senior and Junior Parent Teacher Conferences
      • NCEA Information Evening
      • Loves Me Not Parent Evening
      • Tertiary Costs Evening
    • We would like to thank Amanda Fraser, Victoria University, for once again presenting at our annual Tertiary Costs Evening. And also to the parents who braved the terrible weather to attend. This session provided valuable information not just on fees, but on general expenses associated with tertiary education and assistance available.
    • The PTA is looking for Committee members to fill key roles for next year. If you are interested, please contact the PTA Secretary.

    Monday, 30 July 2018

    • The annual Tertiary Costs Information evening will be held on Monday, 20 August 2018, with the location to be confirmed. This is a very informative talk about student loans (positives and pitfalls) given by Amanda Fraser, Senior Student Finance Adviser from Victoria University. All parents and students welcome.
    • Your PTA needs you!

    1. Our ever-friendly and uber-organised PTA Volunteer Coordinator, Helen Hughes, is leaving at the end of the year. We are looking for someone to take over from Helen – this role ensures that PTA “willing helpers” are there to support many school and PTA activities. This role can be done from home and provides great visibility over school-wide activities. Please contact PTA Secretary if you are interested.
    2. The PTA provides relief support to school librarians to allow them to take their well-earned breaks during the school day. The PTA Library Roster is looking for a few more volunteers to come in on a regular or one-off basis.

    Monday, 11 May 2018

    • We welcome new PTA co-chairs: Shelly Kininmonth and Caroline Masters; with a number of other Committee roles also filled. (We have a fully staffed committee now, plus a number of handovers happening through 2018.)
    • The Brainwave “Unravelling the Adolescent Brain” talk (13 March) was held and was very well-attended. Sarah Best shared the latest findings on adolescent brain development and facilitated thought-provoking discussions on what they mean for our relationships with our children.
    • Upcoming events:
      • Space and Science Fair @ Onslow: 19 May (supported by Hockey) and 26 May (supported by the PTA)
      • Onslow Open Evening: 13 June

    Monday, 26 February 2018

    • The Onslow College app sponsored by the PTA is now available for download via the App Store and the Google Play Store. The app is essentially the portal for mobile devices. While not fully live, it is already a great complement to the portal.
    • The Powhiri and Year 9 tea were once again very successful, many thanks to all those who volunteered. Congratulations to Karen Lum, who won the raffle.
    • The PTA are looking forward to hosting Brainwave Trust on Tuesday, 13 March, at 7pm in the Staffroom. Sarah Best, National Coach and mid region Schools Leader, who will be presenting “Unravelling the Adolescent Brain.” Entry is by koha (gold coin).
    • The PTA AGM will be held on Monday, 19 March, at 7.30pm in the Staffroom. All parents and newcomers welcome.
    • The PTA are still looking to fill a few vacancies for 2018, including a new chair.
